The City of Buena Park is seeking an Assistant/Associate Planner who is excited and has a passion for planning, is a team player, highly motivated, energetic and experienced. Exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage large high profile complex projects are a must. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities, and the ability to work in a high volume, high velocity environment. REQUIRES: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Urban Planning, or a closely related field is required. Major course work in Urban Planning or a related field such as Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Interior Design is highly desirable. A Master’s Degree in Urban Planning or a related field such as Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Interior Design is desirable. One year of general planning experience at the professional, technical, or internship level for the Assistant Planner is required. Two years of general professional and technical planning experience for the Associate Planner is required. Public sector planning experience is desirable.

Appointment will be made at the Assistant Planner or Associate Planner level depending on experience and qualifications at the City’s discretion. An Assistant Planner may be promoted to an Associate Planner, consistent with the flexible staffing method, upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the position and recommendation of the department head and approval by the Director of Human Resources.
